RECONSTRUCTION

Reconstruction Pitter Patter finished

Most schools in Dunoon do not have enough space for the number of kids attending the school every day. Our partnerschool Pitter Patter was facing the same issue. The building served as a school and the home of the principal Chantel and her family at the same time. Therefore, the school had only three classrooms for 50 children and 15 babies.

In December 2022, we tackled the issue of space shortage! We rebuilt the entire building and separated the school from the family home. The result speaks for itself! The upper floor is the new home of Chantel, her husband and their three daughters and the whole lower floor is now divided into eight classrooms, four toilets and a kitchen. At the end of March 2023, the building project was completed and the school was able to celebrate its reopening!

MONTHLY SUPPORT

MONTHLY SUPPORT

Support our partnerschools with a monthly donation of 35 chf/eur

Do you know the difference you can make with 35CHF/EUR ?
Regardless of your answer, from our perspective as Saam Education and our partnerschools the impact is immense!

Besides financing great infrastructure projects, we are also helping our partner schools to cover their various monthly costs. With our financial support they are able to buy food for the children, pay the electricity bill, purchase things they are lacking or broken for the classrooms or the kitchen, and lastly to pay the teachers’ wages.

To assure we can support them on a regular basis we are looking for supporters who sign up for our “monthly supporters project”. With only 35 CHF/EUR per month you can help us and eventually the schools to cover ongoing costs and assure our partnerschools financial stability.

“Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference”

To become part of the monthly supporters, you can simply set up a standing order of 35.-, which will be transferred on the 25th of each month. Because of the transaction fees, we will then make a quarterly transfer to our partner schools so that they can cover the upcoming costs.

We thank you for your generous support! If you would like to receive regular news about the use of the donations, please contact us by e-mail.

july 2022 – first infrastructure project at Zama

After the charity run in May, we discussed with the principal Thulani of our partner school Zama Educare about how we could best support the school with the collected donations as a first step. As with Pitter Patter, Zama also had no sanitary facilities, so it quickly became apparent that we were going to use some of the donations to tackle this need.

Thulani suggested where the toilets could best be installed and then a quote was obtained from a contractor in Cape Town. At the beginning of July the construction work started and 2 weeks later three toilets and the doors were installed. Thus, the first step towards “a hygienic basic infrastructure for the school” has been made! In total, the project ended up costing us CHF 2’040 and the expenses have more than paid for themselves. Thulani and the children are overjoyed and so are we!

Thulani and the children of Zama are overjoyed and so are we! By installing toilets, we can promote the health of the children and ultimately help them to learn better in a comfortable environment.

june 2022 – helping the community clean up the town

On the 16th of June was a Clean up day in Dunoon. It was organized by the early childhood development forum and the kids of Pitter Patter were part of it. We were asked if we would like to pay for the catering for the volunteers and the children, which we were of course very happy to do! The sandwiches were prepared by the teachers of Pitter Patter and in the end, they prepared more than 500 sandwiches for everybody and together they collected huge amounts of garbage. The day was a huge success!

The next day, we wanted to reward the children for their hard work by buying pizza for everyone at Pitter Patter. They loved it and we are so happy to see so many smiling faces!

CHARITY RUN

MAY 2022 – TOGETHER FOR EDUCATION

On May 1st our fundraising run for supporting our partner schools in Dunoon started. The goal was to reach 13,000 km together with all of you by May 31. This 13’000 km were symbolically chosen for the approximate geographical distance between Liechtenstein and Cape Town. We were well aware that this was an ambitious goal, but we strongly believed that we could do it! Because many things often seem impossible until someone has done it.

At the end of May we can proudly say that we even exceeded our goal!

Thanks to the many participants, we managed to run and bike over 15’000 km and generated an incredible donation amount of CHF 2’861!

We are incredibly grateful and proud of everyone who participated in May to support our partner schools! It has been proven once again that we can achieve a lot by doing it together.

As a first step, we will now use part of the donations for the infrastructure project at Zama Educare. The school has no sanitary facilities and therefore we will use the donations to equip the school with two toilets and two lavabos.

UNSER ERSTER INFRASTRUKTURPROJEKT MIT ZAMA

Through Chantel, the principal of Pitter Patter Educare, Irina was able to get in touch with ZAMA Educare. As with Pitter Patter, COVID-19 has left extreme traces. The school lacks the financial means to buy the most important equipment for the school. There is a lack of chairs, desks, and school supplies. In addition, many parents can not pay the school fees, which unfortunately leads to the fact that Thulani, the principal, lacks the money to buy food for the children.

As a first step, we have therefore provided Thulani with the financial means to equip the school with chairs and tables and to buy a new cooking pot.

We are extremely proud that Thulani and her school are now part of our team and look forward to supporting them in the future!

CLOTHES AND TOYS FOR OUR PARTNERSCHOOLS IN DUNOON

We support our partner schools not only financially through donations, we also send packages with clothes, shoes and toys to Cape Town as often as we can. About one year after the first package which we sent in April 2021, we have been able to send 23 packages and 350kg by mail to South Africa!

To be able to maintain this kind of support, we are always happy to receive donations of clothes. To directly  support our schools, children’s clothes are of course ideal. But with adult clothes we can also support the community of Dunoon, which is also very close to our hearts. So we are happy about any kind of clothing donations!

If you have clothes or toys, please sign up via the button in our list. Currently we send packages to South Africa every three months (February, May, August and November).

We will contact you as soon as we plan new packages:

APRIL 2022 – GAME TIME !

In February 2022 we received donations of old jerseys and gauntlets from the Gams Football Club. Gianna was able to prepare 4 packages and send them to Dunoon!

At the beginning of April the packages finally arrived and the joy was overwhelming!  For the children, the T-shirts are a bit big, however, the father of one of our godchildren plays soccer and asked Chantel if he could have a few tricots for his soccer team, since they don’t have any tricots.

We are just extremely proud to have made a small impact in the Dunoon sports community and will continue to support the soccer teams as much as possible.

FINALLY BACK IN DUNOON

FINALLY BACK IN DUNOON

FINALLY BACK IN DUNOON

FEBRUAR 2022 – AFTER 2 YEARS IRINA IS BACK IN DUNOON

It was definitely one of the most emotional moments I’ve ever had! Chantel and I had been working together for over a year and were finally able to hug. After two years, I was finally back in this place that had shaped and changed my life so much. I was able to see with my own eyes how much we have accomplished together and how happy everyone is.

Playing with the children again, dancing, singing and teaching them something was just an extremely enjoyable feeling and gave me a lot of strength and motivation for the future! It is always impressive how little these children have and yet how happy they are. Unfortunately, the 14 days went by way too fast and saying goodbye was extremely hard. However, I can hardly wait to see everyone again and am already very excited to see what we will accomplish by then: There is still a lot to do.

I am absolutely convinced that together we will achieve everything we are aiming for!Â
